Click here to listen to a conversation between the artists and co-curator Lorenz Ecker on the making of 'Short Films about Flying #1', its reception and the durability of time-based media.

Initially presented as an installation, Short Films About Flying #1 is shown here as a video work. Jon Thomson and Alison Craighhead use video footage taken from a camera set up at Boston’s Logan Airport. Visitors to a dedicated website could control the camera’s movements. The artists used a selection of this footage which they spliced together with text taken from online message boards. Combining a variety of internet content, this work is a portal that plays with the boundaries between internet and art. It forms an archive that documents how we navigate the world via flight and the technologies that enable us to flit between the real and the virtual.
